About us

Background

Agency for Environment and Wetlands (AEW) is a non governmental and non profit making community oriented organization based in Uganda. The idea of forming AEW was conceived in 1995 by a group of like-minded professionals.

In December 2003, AEW started on its operations with its head offices located in kawempe division, Kampala district.

AEW is composed of professionals in various fields such as environment, development, agriculture, social sciences, geography, finance and administration plus information communication technology [ICT], however, with a common interest in environmental conservation.

AEW is legally registered with the NGO board in the ministry of internal affairs and Kampala city council KCC welfare department under registration numbers s.5914/1266 and kaw/256 respectively.

On January 6, 2006, AEW was incorporated with Limited Liability under registration number 78058 (under section 16 (1) of the Companies Act of the Republic of Uganda).

Ugandan society where environment and natural resources are used sustainably for the benefit of all generations.

Organizational vision

A well resourced AEW able to guide Ugandans and influence pro environmentally friendly actions in the country-Uganda.

Objectives

Promote wise use of wetlands

Promote wise use of water and water resources management

Promote proper sanitation practices

Promote agricultural activities

Enhance community participation in environment and development related activities

Promote biodiversity conservation

Carry out research and publication on environment and development related issues

Disseminate information on development and environment related issues

Promote networking with other organizations with related interests and objectives

Provide consultancy work in environmentally related issues

Have a well resourced AEW able to achieve all the intended objectives
