In early 2005, two colleagues from Australia i.e. Sean Marler and Dr.Kristen Lyon both from
Griffith University Australia, while in Uganda for a four months study in Forestry and Organic
Farming respectively, participated in some of AEW activities. With support from Forestry
Resources Research Institute [FORRI] Uganda and Jack Mitchell Forest Farming system
[JMFFS] Australia, Sean Marler and AEW team organized a tree planting exercise in Bwaise Kawempe Division-Kampala District following the JMFFS principles in may 2005 [see video].

In August the same year, the Programs Director AEW Mr. David Ssemwogerere [staff] visited Australia with an intention of strengthening the relationship that had been created. While in
Australia, David facilitated a number of talks about AEW and its environmental activities in
Uganda. Among the places where he talked, included the International Riversymposium, Griffith University, Wilderness Society and Jack Mitchell's Farm.

A number of people picked interest in AEW activities in Uganda and decided to form up a group
that named into AEW friends Australia. By the time David left Australia, 29 people had
subscribed as AEW Friends in Australia.

AEW friends in Australia aim at promoting AEW and its activities in Australia. It also intends to
work as abridge for exchange of Knowledge, skills and experiences through Cultural and Environmental exchange study visits.

Since 2005, two students by the names of Hideki Kubo [Masters Student with abias in
environmental Journalism and Sean Marler Undergraduate student in Environmental Science]
from Griffith University and Samantha Neal PhD Student from Queensland University have done
their University Study Projects with AEW.
